31 Days, Zlatko Ćosić, 2011, video, 10:00

31 Days
originated from a new structure driven by a set of rules. Starting on my birthday I took one random photo behind my back without looking through the lens or at the captured image. I recorded thirty seconds of sound at the same location. Meanwhile, I did not use a camera for any other project and avoided any attempt to look through a lens. The process continued for a month as I wrote about my thoughts and feelings. I began assembling the photographs and sounds and added fragmented narration which came from my daily writings. The narration connects to feelings of disconnect with my own culture and my present environment which lately created confusion and isolation. The project made me rethink my position in society, explore identity issues and search for new ways to create art. 31 Days refreshed my senses and allowed me to see beyond the frames of a still image, focusing on sound and expanding my imagination.
